Medieval Castles & Educational Studies

Medieval castles can play an important role in education. Castles, knights, fairytales, magic kingdoms and medieval heroes such as Robin Hood are part of childhood and there is rarely a child who is not delighted to imagine and draw their own castle. The past can truly come to life when combined with the history and design of medieval castles.

Castle owners are generally very keen to encourage visitors and many castles now offer school packs to help teachers plan their trips. This is an area we plan to take a look at in more detail - school trips to castles for example and suggestions on planning and risk assessment.

We also plan to provide a list of castles which positively welcome school parties and preview some of their information packs. It all takes time however so please bear with us and revisit this section in future when we hope to have gathered more information.

Parents & Teachers
There is a wealth of bookshelf reference material for children to help them not just understand but also to enjoy medieval history and its many facets. Many parents and teachers will already be familiar of course with standard recommended medieval history books, but we have a selection of children's books on medieval history and also toys and games with a medieval theme in our small online medieval store in association with Amazon. Apart from the obvious educational benefits, children can have great fun outside school with medieval history - whether it's playing with models of medieval knights in armour or building their own little replica trebuchet!
