Fantasy Castles
The medieval castles of Europe combined with romantic writings such as 'Ivanhoe' created an enduring fascination with castles and their designs.
Many homes were modelled on castles and possibly the most famous of these are in Germany and Austria.
Fantasy castles also cover imaginary buildings and many a famous author has made them central to his story. From Sir Walter Scott and 'Ivanhoe' through to Tolkien and the 'Lord of the Rings', fantasy castles are built, fought over and destroyed.
Fantasy castles are fun. Whether real or imagined this is our chance to create whatever we wish from the darkest most sinister castles right up to lofty towers with breathtaking views. We will explore an eclectic selection of literature from the classics through to modern fantasy. There is no doubt that castles, more so than any other buildings, are firmly anchored in our imaginations.
