Balgonie Castle, Scotland

Construction began on Balgonie Castle which is located in Fife, in the 14th century but additions were made to the structure in the ensuing three centuries.  A long time ago this castle was the seat of the earls of Leven, but in the 18th and 19th centuries the castle gradually fell into a state of disrepair.

The family of Mr Raymond Morris, while the present owners of Balgonie Castle, have worked very hard in the task of restoring Balgonie over the past 10 years.  The ghost which is said to be sometimes present in this old castle and which has apparently been seen both by the Laird, members of his family and also even by visitors to the castle, is known as Green Jeannie.

Apparently this apparition has been seen mainly at night and most commonly in an area of the castle which was constructed early in the 18th century.  This particular ghost is as you might have guessed, bright green in colour as the name suggests.  As well as Green Jeannie, there have been other strange occurrences at the castle including shadowy figures which some have claimed to have seen in the area of the Great Hall of the castle.
