Bedlay Castle, Scotland
Bedlay Castle is can be found about 3 miles SE of Kirkintilloch in Lanarkshire & Glasgow. The castle was built in the 12th century as a palace for the Bishops of Glasgow. Said to be haunted by a certain Bishop Cameron who around the year 1350 AD was found dead, face down in the waters of a nearby Loch. It would seem that the bishop was probably murdered and certainly over the ensuing centuries many have claimed to see his ghost around the castle causing much distress to the occupiers over the centuries because of the tormented sounds it is said to make.
Apparently an exorcism was carried out towards the end of the 19th century but without much success and as late as the 1970s, occupants have claimed to have seen the Bishop and to have heard him walking around restlessly in various rooms.
Another ghostly story connected with this castle is based on the old Glasgow-Stirling road on which there have been reports of people hearing a coach and horses. Apparantly, as it approached, the ghost of a young girl would appear to step down into the road upon which a scream was then heard, followed by total peace and tranquillity.
